Aftercare

Trophy maintenance

We assist with the preservation and restoration of cherished trophies — cleaning, repair and maintenance of all types of taxidermy. Whether you’re restoring an aging mount to its former glory or protecting a new piece.

RestorationEvery incoming mount is condition-assessed before work begins

Bring an old mount back

Sun-faded capes, dusty hair, loose ears, cracked noses and damaged habitat can all be addressed. Send us photographs and we’ll tell you honestly whether restoration is worthwhile.

The do’s

Keeping a mount looking new

  • Keep mounts out of direct sunlight. UV fades a hide the same way it fades a painted wall, and makes it brittle and prone to shrinking.
  • Choose a display spot away from outside doors and weather changes.
  • Keep mounts dry. Moisture in damp rooms and basements creates mould and a long list of other problems.
  • Dust gently and regularly. Trophies need aftercare like any leather product.
The don’ts

What ages a trophy fastest

  • Never hang a mount over a fireplace, wood stove or any heating unit — it’s the most common mistake hunters make.
  • Dry heat is the worst thing for a mount. It dries the hide, causes it to shrink, and turns the hair dry and brittle.
  • Avoid damp rooms and basements entirely.
  • Don’t use household cleaners or polish on hair, horn or antler.
